A huge thank you to Tokio Millennium Re Ltd, who were once again our sponsors for a series of triathlons held in Hamilton on Sunday 9 June 2013. Congratulations to Tyler Butterfield and Karen Smith, the 2013 Male and Female Champions in the Tokio Millennium Re Sprint Senior Individual Triathlon.
Tyler said: “It was a lot of fun out there today, it is always great to come back and compete at home, giving the sponsors a show as they support me all the time.”
Tyler even had time for some fun with his brother Spencer, who did the run leg for a team. Tyler explains, “I pushed really hard in the swim and then the bike, and then for two laps in the run before letting Spencer catch me. Then Spencer and I decided to have a little sprint-off. My brother always gets the better of me in the sprints but I thought I had a chance today. I thought maybe he would be a bit tired at the end of his run. But he got the better of me at the line.”
Karen had a good swim although she trailed Belinda Castree, Karen said, “I was just looking for Belinda while I was riding the bike but I never saw her, I think she pulled out and I hope she is OK. The day was wonderful, I wanted to save some for the run because I knew the conditions, it was getting warmer and I was making sure I the energy to finish strongly and I was able to do that.”
