Eighteen down, at least one more to go! This has been a terrific season for the Argo Re Summer Series, thanks to the invaluable sponsorship of Argo Re and the enthusiasm of the athletes.

The latest race was hosted by me, Alan Gilbertson. I really appreciated the help of Trina Godfrey, who pitched in to do the sign up and acted as safety marshal. Thank you, to Trina and to everyone else who helped.
The race was won with a new PB by Otis Ingham, whose hard work on his swim technique continues to pay off. Otis still left himself some catching up to do after exiting the water, but his usual strong bike ride gave him the edge and he held off some capable youngsters on the run. Alex Godfrey was 22 seconds behind in second place after trading places during the race with Tim Fox in third. Sharon Hammond was again our female winner, and won family bragging rights over husband Richard.
Last but not least, Louis Hammond was the winner in the short race — and he was very helpful afterwards in alerting me (as timer) when an athlete was close to the line. Louis has come a long way since he first started these events at the age of about 6, when one of his parents would shepherd him by following closely throughout.
A few other observations:
  • It may have been a record week for Lost and Found! From memory, items handed in included a red bike computer, two bike helmets, a pair of bike shoes, a pair of running shoes, a pair of swim goggles and a towel. I locked these items in the BTA shed (room on the right, in the right-hand rack.) If the owners need them before next Thursdays event, please email [email protected]
  • It was great to see a few newcomers as well as some returning athletes. Welcome back! (You know who you are.)
  • Well done to the Riihiluoma family, the winners of the Longest Drive Competition (hey, they live in Somerset.)
  • Well done in particular to Jay Riihiluoma for edging out the younger generation in the form of Oliver. Experience rules!
