Where did everyone come from? The fourth race of this year’s season attracted nearly twice as many athletes as last week. The weather probably helped. After two windy weeks, the wind was light, and it was a glorious day–warm but not too hot. Another factor may have been the Tokio triathlon on Sunday. Quite a few experienced athletes turned out, probably to to dust the rust off their transitions before the Tokio event.
Among them was Tucker Murphy
. Tucker will be a podium contender on Sunday and won this warm up very comfortably. Nick Pilgrim
showed his potential by finishing a very impressive second, with a strong time. It’s going to be fascinating to watch the Pilgrim kids as they mature–each of them has looked great as youngsters. In third place, and our leading lady, was Megan Kelly
, who’s visiting the island on holiday. (Megan, you should think about coming back for the Queen of Bermuda later in the season–see the Events Schedule
Welcome back to a number of returning athletes who took part for the first time this season! Hope to see you again. Well done to a number of the younger competitors–there were some great performances.
A big thank you to Patty Petty, helped by daughter Allison, for timing the event, and to Judith Howe Tucker for helping with sign up and keeping us safe at the bike turn. Thanks also to the many folks who helped with set up and take down.
Best of luck to everyone taking part on Sunday. Also to our athletes going overseas to take part in longer races–including at least one “Argo Re Graduate” who will be doing her first Ironman 70.3 on Sunday.
And last but not least: Betsy behaved!
